Trimming plants lightly, now that Summer in nearly over, will see shrubs & ground covers keep their shape until spring. Hard cut backs are best done at the beginning of Spring so don’t go too hard now or you will be staring at a bare shrub for many months to come.
If the rain has missed your place, give your trimmed plants a watering and apply some mulch (if needed) to ensure water retention. This will provide the support needed through the cooler months. A slow release fertilizer can also be applied around the base of the plant now too.
Make good use of the clippings by composting them. Compost is a valuable resource for your garden so make as much of it as you can.
