The Magnolia grandiflora – Teddy Bear is an upright growing Magnolia reaching 4M in height by 2M wide at maturity. With large, rounded, dark green leaves with a felted bronze underside, this gorgeous specimen will add great structure to your garden. In the warmer months of late Spring to Autumn, large, gorgeous, white flowers blossom producing a lovely fragrant smell. This compact magnolia makes for a spectacular fragrant hedge, screen and does very well in a large feature pot of 60cm wide or more. As a hardy tree, it can tolerate most conditions and prefers a full sun to part shaded position in well drained soil.

 

The cousin of Teddy Bear is Magnolia grandiflora – Little Gem which is also another stunning Magnolia worthy of consideration.

 

 

Little Gem reaches 4-6M by 3-4M wide at maturity and flowers from an early age. Forming a similar gorgeous, creamy, white flower and with a dark green leaf, with a felted, bronze underside just like Teddy Bear, Little Gem is more tree like in its habit. This magnolia makes an amazing feature tree and can be planted in groups.  Performing best in full sun to part shaded areas, this hardy tree will thrive in well-drained soil.

So if you are looking for a stunning tall, compact shrub or feature tree, than these two Magnolias are a true favourite.
