The Dracaena fragrans, commonly known as Happy Plant or Corn plant is one of the best indoor plants for your home growing to approximately 2m in a pot.
When planted in the ground, Happy plant grows up to 7m high and compliments a Tropical/Balinese theme with its thick cane like stem and lush, leafy appearance. In good conditions they can create beautiful, fragrant, white flowers on long stems that flower through Spring to Summer.
Happy Plant are a popular indoor plant (best in cooler climate areas) as they are an easy plant to care for and they improve the air quality. To keep your plant happy & healthy, make sure the soil is always moist, you can also feed your plant a liquid fertiliser during the warmer months to maintain healthy leaf.
In the cooler months your plant can go a little longer between watering as the soil will hold moisture longer. You will however need to clean the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust. This will ensure the plant can breathe (photosynthesis) & stay health free from pests & diseases. Place your plant in a well-lit spot around the house but away from direct sunlight and it will reward you year after year.
Also remember that Dracaena are toxic to your cats, so it’s important to take the necessary precautions to keep your pets safe.
This striking, easy to care for plant is a must consider for your home. Whether as a potted species inside or out in the entertainment area, Dracaena fragrans – Happy Plant will also thrive in your Tropical/ Subtropical garden design.
