This robust species (Acmena smithii) brings such colour to your garden design.  With the robust nature of Syzygium (Lilypilly) without the disease and pest issues, Acmena showcases many varieties and is a plant you should consider for your garden.

Growing habit

Native species

The stunning Acmena smithii – Cherry Surprise grows to 3M in height and 1.5M wide with narrow, long burgundy foliage when new, setting to green once mature.  This species responds well to pruning and can easily be maintained to 2m in height with a bi annual trim.

Cherry Surprise is a shrub that won’t let you down with its low water requirements once established.  Take a look at Acmena – Forest Flame for a 2 – 2.5M mature height that brings all the beautiful foliage colour to your garden design too.

Without a doubt this native species is one of the easiest plants to establish in the garden.

Need a smaller variety

Native species

It’s smaller cousin, Acmena smithii – Allyn Magic at 60cm high and wide, makes for a spectacular low hedging plant, providing year round foliage colour to the garden.

Once established, this native plant species is drought tolerant, if kept well mulched.  As an individual planting, Acmena has a lovely natural shape which ensures its value within your landscape design.
