Archontophoenix alexandrae – Alexandra Palm

A single trunk palm that grows to 15m.  Large green fronds.  The Alexandra Palm is self-cleaning in that, fronds drop to the ground rather that hanging after death.  This enables easy clean up though frond fall is fairly constant.  Grows in Tropical Darwin and Cairns Climate Zones.  Noted as weed in the Subtropical Region.

Livistona australis – Cabbage Tree Palm

A tall rain forest palm with a large crown of fan shaped fronds, which remain hanging on the plant when spent.  Masses of cream flowers are followed by black fruits.  Performs better in part shade.  Copes with various soils, needs plenty of water.  Attractive indoor plant.  Grows in Tropical Cairns, Subtropical and Temperate Regions and Cool Victoria Climate Zones.

Wodyetia bifurcata – Foxtail Palm

Very attractive palm with a grey trunk and long 2-3m long plumose leaves, giving it its name of Foxtail Palm.  This palm grows to 10m in height and is slow growing with a self-cleaning habit, making this one of the best palms to include in your garden.  Grows in all Climate Zones.
